July is an exciting time here at AMA Colorado as it marks the start of a new board year.
Like the first day of the new school year – the new board year brings feelings of excitement, optimism and a little nervousness for what to expect in the year ahead.
This year those feelings are amplified. The world is very different than it was a year ago. Remote work is now the norm, the future is less certain, and there are more questions than ever on how to adapt your career and your business to excel during these unusual times.
Over the last few months I have reflected on the 3 years I have spent volunteering with the AMA Colorado board, and all the connections I have made during that time. I thought about how AMA Colorado has impacted myself and thousands of others who have been members, volunteers, partners or event attendees over the years.
At its core AMA Colorado is about providing opportunities.
Opportunities to connect. Opportunities to learn. Opportunities to grow.
Our team is committed to continuing to provide those opportunities, even though it will look a little different this year. Now more than ever those opportunities are vital to our community’s continued growth and success.
I am excited to share some updates and initiatives you can expect as we move towards 2021.
The COVID-19 situation is ever-changing, and we cannot predict what the next 12 months will look like. Safety is a top priority when it comes to hosting in-person events and we feel strongly that it is best to keep all our events virtual through at least January 2021. We are hoping that by the spring the conditions will improve, and we will be able to meet in-person again. In an effort to make our events accessible to all we will offer our virtual industry mixers at no charge for the remainder of 2020. There will be an opportunity for you to donate to the Food Bank of the Rockies when you register so we can help those who need it most.
This year we are looking to add a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Director to our board. This role will advise the board leadership on how to be an even more inclusive and diverse organization that is reflective of the community we represent. They will also lead us in developing a D.E.I. workshop where we can share insight with our marketing community to better understand how to be more inclusive with marketing efforts. This role is integral to our organization’s success, and because of that we will be offering a free AMA membership to this leader. Going 100% virtual provides additional opportunities to connect. In addition to our monthly industry mixers and educational workshops I will be hosting a monthly meetup.
